Over the past year and a half, theatres have remained closed on account of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with things finally seeming to return to normalcy, theatres across the country are opening up albeit with certain restrictions. In fact, respective state governments of India have issued protocols that need to be followed, which in turn might affect the overall business of films releasing in theatres. Currently with the Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi coming up for release, Bollywood Hungama takes a look at the occupancy in each state to ascertain how these regulation could affect the overall business of the film.
Unlike the pre Covid times a majority number of states within India, viz. Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Bihar- Jharkhand, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Assam have limited seating to 50% occupancy during any given show. On the other hand a few states like Rajasthan, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Gujarat, Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh have permitted 100% occupancy, while a few territories like Meghalaya and Jammu & Kashmir have permitted 30% and 25% occupancy respectively.
Sooryavanshi is the first big ticket Bollywood entertainer to hit screens is expected to see a sustained growth in business at the box office.
